Again.

I've managed to turn out an archery scroll for Bryn Gwlad, and the invite scroll for TRH Aaron and Amelot Lisette's coronation.

Pictures of both to come later, after they've been awarded/sent out.

Now, I turn my attention to letters of intent and crests for the Legacy of Lions event in October.  *blink*

Ioannes wants a demi double-headed eagle or issuant from a tower gules, and Liam wants a woman, holding an a quill and...a flame, I think?

*blink*

So, papier mache, here I come!

Seven amazng years. Tonight has been steaks, and wine and Scotch and cake.

Epic. My life is fucking epic.

Day 17-

I have been eaten by grues.

That is all.
soldiergrrrl: (grumpy)
Well, I’m still alive, so that’s a plus.  Actually, life isn’t too bad here lately, so I’ll say that I’m doing better than “just alive.”

Right now, though, I’m a tad frustrated.  I’m at drill, and feeling, as my husband once said, like the proverbial pickle hawked in the street.  Seriously, I’m still trying to get a handle on the fact that I’m in Fire Support, as a non-lethal effect, and that 13F and 46Q are evidently two great tastes that taste great together…*blink blink blink*

So, I’m still trying to get a handle on the whole thing, and not looking forward to spending more time after drill at meetings, but there we go.  Since I have no public affairs officer, I get to go to the meetings now.  Yay.

Add to that, the officer I *was* talking to is taking over HHC today, and so, we’re getting a new senior Fires captain.  Except that he’s not going to be around long as he’s moving to Kansas.  And the Fires NCOIC is newer than I am, and has less idea of what to do with me than he would if someone handed him a pink tutu and told him to use it to affect the mission.  *blink blink blink*

As of right now, I’m digging through Field Manuals and Army Regulations, trying to get a handle on my job here at Brigade level.  I have to admit to being totally spoiled by my time in a tiny unit.  It’s been nice, but that time is over and I have got to figure it out.  Equipment is a pain in the drain too, as the crap they’ve got for PAO is literally the old stuff from the MPAD, that we got rid of before our deployment in 2005.  It’s kind of like expecting me to run the Indy 500 in a Yugo.  *blink blink blink*

Oh, and don’t even get me started on my promotion.  The only positive is that it will be backdated to 28 February.  *headdesk headdesk headdesk*  I’m hoping to hear something today, as my NCOER was FINALLY freakin’ sent to EPS by the right person (I think) and the orders should be processed.  Sooner rather than later would be nice…
soldiergrrrl: (Scribal)
But you probably already knew that.  I've started on a couple of scrolls.

The first is the archery champion scroll for Bryn Gwlad's baronial.  It's not too fancy schmancy, but I like it!

It's based on this style of ornamentation:

This is what the inked version looks like.  I'm waiting to find out what the text of the award will be, so that I can design a capital, though...

The second scroll I've started is for a friend's Award of Arms:

It's drawn off these two scrolls, almost copied, actually.  I suck at drawing animals right now, so, I borrowed from the Capodilista Codex to find a female knight.  (And no, she's not a knight, but I wanted a woman on horseback and this came up.  Hope I don't piss anyone off....)

The second one I took inspiration from just had a gorgeous border, and I loved the diamonds.

So, I kinda rolled them up together and ended up with this:

Sorry about the size difference!

Anyway, those are the diamonds on the border, with a quarter for scale.

If you'll excuse me, I have to go crazy now.

Liam bought a cup holder for my bike. So, where do you think I went for a drink? If you guessed Starbucks, you'd be right. And it's in a reusable travel cup, so I'll be able to hit the road any time!!! I think if I was *ever* edgy, that time has passed...

Man. I got up and ran this morning, and then went out again tonight. Ow. Flop. It's only the beginning of the Couch to 5k program so I don't think I'll overdo it. Ow.

Flop.

But I'm not sure what it is...

Actually, I do know a bit.

Went up to Ft. Worth this weekend to hang out with my best friend and do a little bit of sewing.  She helped me make made some grand assietes with help around the edges from me, and I'm excited.  I have to put buttons on them, but they're GORGEOUS.  We made two for Liam and one for me.  The one we made me may end up being turned into armor, as it's REALLY stiff, but we'll see.  Unsurprisingly, it's maroon and pink.  The ones we made for Liam are, unsurprisingly, black and gold.  :-)

We grabbed a couple of movies to watch (ostensibly while putting buttons on), Megamind and Burlesque.  We watched Megamind and enjoyed the hell out of it.  It's cute, and whatever I was expecting, it wasn't that, but it was really good!  I'm going to sit down and watch Burlesque at my house, ostensibly while doing buttons.  ;-D

I've been doing a lot more riding lately, and it's been a lot of fun.  I'm doing better at keeping my speed up on the highway, although I'm still working on getting comfortable with freeway overpasses, but that'll come with time, I'm sure.  Right now, I'm just enjoying it.

Oh!  I registered for school today!  It's only two classes, and they both relate to my job, but I'm excited.  I'm NERVOUS, but excited!

Wheeeeee!

I've spent most of the day running errands on the bike and having a blast.  I went to school this morning to finish up some VA stuff, and then went to Target and Starbucks.  Tonight, it's Wingstop and then to the VFW post for to watch [livejournal.com profile] cenliamgordon  play softball.  I'll probably need to stop and grab gas first, though.  The SuperGlide has a tiny tank.  (Yes, I traded in the Beemer for a HD.  I'm just...much much happier on the HD than I was on the Beemer.  It's lower, and more...well...let's just say Baby and I fit better.)

Wish my new work phone would hurry up and get here.  The contract with ATT ends on Monday, and they're turning the work BB off.  Granted,  I wouldn't cry if I don't have a work BB, but I think the office would get annoyed with it in short order.

OH!

I took my first truly solo motorcycle ride today and I rocked it.  Go me!

It doesn't affect YOUR job at all.

Asshat.

Huh...

soldiergrrrl: (Patience...I has none)
Guess I'm kinda falling down on that whole "update more regularly" thing.

Let's see.

I'm currently waiting on final approval for the magazine.  Hoping that comes today.

I have to head over to Austin Community College this afternoon to speak with an adviser (that looks wrong, but Firefox doesn't like "advisor") so I can register for classes next week.  Yay?

Waiting...still waiting.

Get to spend some time with my best friend this weekend, and I'll be heading up there next weekend to hang out and hopefully inspire her to great feats of creative genius.  Not that she needs my help, really, she's amazing.

Still waiting.  I hate waiting.  Hate it.

This is a recap post, and crossposted to [livejournal.com profile] gardening

We've been doing some work on the front yard lately, and I wanted to crow about it.  It's not as awesome as some of y'all's gardens but considering what we started with, I'm please as can be!

This is what we started with: BORING!!!!

Progress... )
soldiergrrrl: (Pink Rose)
Between fighter practice on Tuesday and stump pulling yesterday and today, I am one sore chick.

But!  I'm so happy about what we're doing that it's not funny.  Poor Liam is going to have to deal with all this new stuff when we're gone different places, but ooooooh!  It looks sooooo shiny!

Lemme show you!

This is what the front of the house used to look like:

Icky grass, UGLY hedges, and not a flower in sight...

Well, this is what it looks like now (or at least for the next few hours...then there will be MOAR stuff!):

Tomorrow, the last of the ugly shrubs are going to be pulled up and more roses put in, I think.  There will be climbing roses on the columns of the front porch, and another climber on the wall next to the established climber.  Tomorrow, we finish putting in the roses, re-lay the soaker hose and and take shameless advantage of the city's free mulch program.

The front of the house look SO much more inviting, already.  Granted, we're going to have to learn to take care of roses, but I think we can do that.  I've already found a great feeder/insect control/disease control solution from Bayer, so I'm thrilled with how it's all turning out.
soldiergrrrl: (Pink Rose)
Ain't that bad.  John's gone TDY, but it's life, and although I miss him, we cope.  We have Skype, and video Gchat, so we at least get to see each other while we chat.  I've been a crappy conversationalist lately, but he's forgiven me.

Went out for a grocery run on the bike the other day and it went well!  Really well, actually.  I'm all excited to get out more now.

And today, today I'm listening to the rain on the roof and hoping it stays nice and gentle, all day long.  I've got an appointment to get my eyebrows done, so I'm not looking forward to running out in the rain, but if it means we get rain, I'll be soaked cheerfully.  Okay.  Maybe not *cheerfully* but I'll take it!

Hrm.  Not too much else to do today.  I need to fill out my travel voucher for the trip to Reno, and send that in.  I should get on that!
soldiergrrrl: (Range!)
Good riddance.  Bad rubbish.  You get the idea.

No, I don't wanna see pictures, thanks.  Dead bodies are dead bodies are dead bodies and if you've never actually seen one, shut up and take the SEALS word on him bein' dead, okey-dokey?

Besides, we're *still* supposed to be wearing the white hats and we don't need to ogle and sneer at a dead man.  That gives him WAY too much power, even after death, and we should want to gloat over his death about as much as we would gloat over the death a single roach.  Meh.  I am NOT saying his death isn't important, but we shouldn't *gloat* and we shouldn't be celebrating.  My opinion, of course, yours may vary.

All I really feel is a sense of...well...justice, maybe.  A relief that at least his particular strain of malevolence is gone, but I am not naive enough to think that his ideological heirs are not waiting in the wings.  Oh, and it's nice that people are actually realizing that maybe, just maybe, Pakistan ain't exactly the stalwart ally they pretend to be.  Ya think?

Well...

Why is it that I keep telling myself that I'll update this silly thing, and then, it's one thing and another and it's been three weeks gone before I know it?

I've not really been doing that much, but I have been playing around with a new app on my iPhone, called "Hipstamatic" and I rather love it.  (Also, just as an aside, Firefox now recognizes iPhone and app in spell check.  That's amusing.)

Hmmmm...I'm willing to so shorter updates but would that annoy folks too much?  Is one long infodump better?

Anyway, have some pictures.  Or don't.  LJ is telling me they're too big to upload.  WTF?  Hmph.  Fine, then, I'll put them on Flickr.

I keep hoping my love of photography will come back here Real Soon Now.  Maybe not doing so much of it at work will help.

Oh yeah, this weekend is the first drill with the new unit.  We'll see how it goes, but I'm nervous as hell.  I'm pretty sure I'm going to have to fight for a spot of my own, and to avoid becoming the unit's newest paperwork bitch.  Yay.
soldiergrrrl: (grumpy)
So, the White House has released the long form of The Birth Certificate.  Does this mean we're done, or is the birther movement going to still scream the document is faked?  *eyeroll*  You know, maybe we should concentrate on things that are important, since I don't think there's another piece of paper or official that's going to come forth and swear up and down that Obama was born in Hawaii, not Kenya or the moon, or wherever these people would like to think he'd been born.

How much more does the White House have to trot out?  Do you want The Birth Certificate to go on tour, along with the attending physician and a psychic so that the parents can be reached via seance?  Even then, some of the hard-core people wouldn't believe it, and NEVER will.  You could use a time machine to take them back to the day and place Obama was born and they, like the flat-earthers would say it was all a set up.

I'm not a fan of the president, but good God and little fishes this is getting old and it makes Conservatives look really dumb.  DUMB.

Sooooo...

Went out on the bike Friday afternoon, for a fairly long ride, at least for as new as I am, it was long.  I did pretty well I think, considering it was windy and I managed to go south when I meant to go north...

I'm really pleased the ride went well, as I'd have seriously had to look at keeping the bike if it hadn't.  Now, I'm anxious to actually get out there more, and ride!  Liam and I went on a ride to benefit ALS research yesterday, and it was a blast.  I'm glad I was the passenger, as I don't think I've got the skill to go on a two hour ride that ended up in the middle of downtown Austin.  We had a police escort, but still...formation turns?  Not my strong suit yet.

The Harley dealer was definitely willing to take the Bimers in on trade although I'm NOT dropping $18k on a bike any time soon, no matter how much I like the Rocker C.
