Because that's a good place to start.

This weekend was Her Stellar Majesty Queen Amelot Lisette de Blamont's Queen's Champion and Guardian of the Queen's Hope Tournaments.  The Stronghold of Hellsgate hosted the event and evidently, we did well.

The event was held on Camp Mabry, in the camping area and the site was declared a winner by just about all and sundry.  There was a charity race being held on post the same morning, so we had a bit of a SNAFU with the traffic situation and road closure, but overall?  It went really well.  The gate guards were polite, professional and got our folks through the gate with little to no hassle.

I did the site tokens, and they were pretty well received I think.  Basically, I copied a page from a German fencing manual, then copied that painting with some quotes, to make bookmarks.  The originals were framed for HRM, as her site token.

I also ended up with waterbearing, not that I minded.  It just kinda slipped Liam's mind, and so I grabbed it.  Sara and Ghilean helped like crazy, though, so I appreciated them manning the table when I couldn't or was off being a social butterfly.

Overall?  OMG great event.  Exhausting, but fun, and everyeone seemed to have a good time.  I also made the Queen cry, first thing in the morning, so I count that as a win.  (They have all go to invest heavily in waterproof makeup.)

Uh.  Other than that, not much else going on.  Tired and sore from the weekend, but back at work and trucking along.

This weekend coming up is a quiet weekend, and then next weekend is 3 Whosiwhatsis, where I WILL be fighting.  In fact, I've got ONE scroll lined up for Gulf Wars, and that's IT for a while.  I'd like to concentrate on my fighting, and get at least some of the rust knocked off before I take on another commission, so I'm going to tie my hands to my knees so they don't float up any more.

This is a recap post, and crossposted to [livejournal.com profile] gardening

We've been doing some work on the front yard lately, and I wanted to crow about it.  It's not as awesome as some of y'all's gardens but considering what we started with, I'm please as can be!

This is what we started with: BORING!!!!

Progress... )

So, I went to see my doctor on Thursday.  I needed a refill on my meds, and she put me back on a med I'd stopped taking.  It's a great drug, and I love being on it.  The reasons I went off are myriad and not really for public consumption, but let's just say...I have been taking it for four days and I can tell it's building up in my blood.  I'm focused and productive.  (In fact, I'm about to go upstairs and be *more* productive!)

I've started to want to wear makeup again, and have finally taken a good look at the ick that my depression has caused around the house.

Damn, where the hell have I been the past few months?????

The NYE Pajama Party was a win.  TOTAL and utter win.  We watched Despicable Me, and Incredibles, and had a blast.  I was so lucky to have [livejournal.com profile] pancua , [livejournal.com profile] perilousknits , [livejournal.com profile] cenliamgordon , and the rest of our friends around to ring in a year that is going to freakin' ROCK.  IF you weren't there, we missed you!  If possible, this will become a tradition.  (Wheeee!  New jammies every year!)

I've gotten good news on the homecoming front, although I won't say much past that.

Oh, I'm working on de-stashing the icky fabrics from my sewing room and getting it organized up there.  I need to sew.  Badly.  Really badly.

Uh.  That's all for me right now.  I'm going to go find a snack and then go clean up the sewing room.

Today...

Today I am grateful for:

A husband who trusts me implicitly, in big things and small.  Who trusts me with his heart, and who safeguards mine as well.  John, you are amazing.  I love you more and more each day.

The Liamur who has been a rock through this deployment.  He's held me when I cried, laughed with me when the absurdity of my life got to be a bit much, and jumped in to help with anything and everything I could need.  Liam, thank you.  I love you and can't imagine how much lonelier I'd be without you.

Amalia and Alejandro-  You two are so wonderful.  Thank you.  You've made me laugh, made me cry, picked me up off the side of the road when I needed it (literally) and in general?  Just make my life more awesome by being in it.  I love you both.

Dena-  Thank you for being a friend.  For lending me an ear, and hugs and good design advice.  :-)  Love ya babes.

Tim and Celia-  Thank you!  And OMG BEEF JERKY!  NOM!!!

Piroshki-  Thank you for being part of my life, even if it's only through LJ right now.

Avery-  Thank you, and no cheating by playing with privileged information!  I will thank you and your lady in person today.

Liam St. Liam-  Thank you, honey for everything.

Hazel-  Thank you for the OMG PINK! belt.  It's beautiful and your gift of time and creativity is...amazing.

The Stronghold of Hellsgate-  You are all freakin' amazing and wonderful and God I am so proud of us all.

My SCA friends and family-  Thank you.  Oh God, how do I say thank you enough?  You have all been amazing, to fight with and beside, to teach me, to show me what chosen family is, to help me when my days are darkest and for bringing a smile to my beloved Ioannes's face.

To my family-  You are all wonderful and I am SO blessed to have y'all in my life.

To my extended family-  Thank you.  So much.  Every day I realize how lucky I am to have you all.

Every day, I am so grateful to you all, each and every one of you, who are in my life.  You amaze me, make me smile, and remind me of how greatly God has blessed me.  If I didn't name you, please don't think I'm not grateful for you.  I'm just running with limited brain cells.

I'd like to know where Winston is, but even if I could stand to ask, he'd just lie to me.  All he ever did was lie.  There are days when I'm still amazed I was SO stupid, and fell for his bullshit.

*snerk*

:-P  Some times, I learn really really slowly.  He was one of those times.

Have I *ever* mentioned how much John's honestly played into why I fell in love with him?

ETA-  Winston is the dog.  The ex is the one who lies.  ;-)

Really...

I can't begin to express how lucky I really am.  Even through chat, my husband cracks me up.

Other people I cherish make me smile and laugh in text, on the phone, or through email.

The amount of laughter in my life amazes me.  I'm surrounded by it, and I am so beyond happy that some times it scares me.

Blessings, I has them.

First and foremost, Christ is Risen!

All in all, it's been a good weekend.

I'm feeling MUCH better, and think that I've mostly kicked the crud I picked up after GW in the butt.

Friday, we committed gardening, and got a section of lawn sheet mulched and planted with stuff.  Mostly some pink-flowering plants Liam's little boy picked out, a white-flowering plant his little girl picked out, the Peace rose that followed me home from Lowe's, and some Asiatic lilies that I was going to plant by the door, until Liam noticed they needed full sun, not part sun.  Whoops.  So, that area's just mulched and I'll figure out something to put there.

Saturday, we headed to the Leander VFW (I'm now a member) for an Easter egg hunt.  They had 3000 eggs, but really, the kids didn't manage to get many at all, because the bigger kids were faster and, well...meaner isn't quite right, but it's close.  So, Liam snuck out to MalWart and got eggs, jelly beans and robin's egg candies for an egg hunt here this morning.  :-)

Last night was Pascha, and I'm not terribly happy with the pictures I took this year, although I'll post some of them under a cut so John can see.  I staggered in about 0400 and slept until right around 0800.  Got up, wandered around a bit and Liam kicked my butt back to bed so I could nap some more. The second best part of the night?  John called and we chatted the entire way home!

After I was finally upright, and had some coffee, I made arrangements with Deane (John's best friend, who is home on R&R from Iraq) to see Clash of the Titans.  Honestly, I wasn't expecting high art (c'mon, have you seen the original?), and it was fun.  It was pretty much every great role-playing game I've been in wrapped up in one package.

(For those of you who don't game, the next paragraph can be summed up as "dork dork dork.")

We had the Great Big Antagonist, the Reluctant Hero, the Plucky Sidekicks (who die), the Plucky Sidekicks (who come back to save your ass), the Bodacious Chick, and the Exotic Mount.  Also, see Giant Creepy Monsters, and Freaky Cultists.  There was a cute nod to the original, although I was kind of disappointed they didn't do more with it.  There were some WTF moments, and some amazing logic roll fails, as well as some total natural 20s in the combat scenes.  Also, pls to be explaining Greek gods in Gothic plate armor?  (Whoever shines Zeus's armor...wow.  I don't wanna know how many points they've dropped into "art- polishing."

Sadly, Deane has to head back to the sandbox tomorrow, so that sucks.  He's where I'm heading, so I'm hoping to see him again soon.  (Well, I'd really rather we both be in the area, rather than both in Iraq, but hey, I'll take small victories where I can find them.)

Now, I'm about to go crawl into bed.  Tomorrow is coming up faster than I want it to!
soldiergrrrl: (Beloved)

And all is better in his world.  He's busy, warm and dry, and really, that's all I can ask for.

Evidently, this was a "So, no one's dead, RIGHT?" call, because he logged on to USAA this morning and saw that I'd used the roadside assistance.  It's labelled as "Towing," no matter what you use it for.  I had to have a PopALock guy come out, because I'm a dingaling and locked my keys in the truck.  Yes, staggeringly blonde.  Seriously, though, I cannot figure out how they ended up behind the driver's seat.  *croggle*

I'm adjusting to him being gone, although his side of the bed is still awfully empty.  Moose and Moxie just aren't the same, even if the Dane does outweigh John.  I mean, John doesn't snore, and well...Moose does.  Not really loud, but enough to make me realize that he's *not* John.  (You know, I think I'm really terribly grateful for this.  I just...yeah.  Not GOING THERE.)

The dogs all woke me up at 0345 with "OMG, MOM!  GOTTA GO NOW!!!!!!!!"  Which is better than them NOT waking me up, so I'm okay with that.  Moxie has been having some problems with remembering her housetraining, but that seems to be getting better.  I caught her squattng yesterday and interrupted it, then gently grabbed her collar and led her outside, and that seems to have jogged her memory that she's *supposed* to pee outside.

Also, since reading I has a sweet potato the dogs have all taken to telling me they've been badly raised.  By people who STARVED them.  Or IGNORED them.  Depends on the dog.  But mostly, it's starving.  I did find something funny yesterday.  Gina is...rarely a couch dog.  She'll get up on it, if she REALLY wants petting and you're just not cooperating, but I've never seen her up on the couch to just hang out and sleep.  I forgot something in the house yesterday, and had to run back inside, and as I passed through the living room, she stood up on the couch, like I'd woken her up, and looked like she'd gotten caught with her paw in the cookie jar.  Hell, like she'd gotten caught spelunking in the cookie jar.  I just patted her on the head, told her she was a good girl, and zoomed back out the door.  However, GINA ON THE COUCH FTW!!!!  As far as I'd been able to tell, the only vice Gina really had is not wanting to be brushed.  Now I know she sneaks on to the couch.  YAY!  That makes me feel better for some reason.

I think I'm going to start doing frozen kongs for the doggehs, since they are left alone for a long time during the day.  I'll have to adjust Lardbutt (AKA Moxie) when it comes time to feed, but if I can at least give them something nummy to think about during the day, it'll help the time pass.  :-)  Also, as weird as it sounds, I'm probably going to try this CD:  Through a Dog's Ear.  Maybe a bit woo-woo, but anything to help the puppehs through the day is good in my book.  :-)

I think that's all for right now.

soldiergrrrl: (Yay!)
Tomorrow, I will be up to my eyeballs in turkey, family and friends, so I'm going take a moment today to say how thankful I am for my life. I have a wonderful, loving family, the best friends I could ask for, a stable job, and a new house. My dogs are pretty awesome (even horrible little rat dogs that steal sandwiches off desks...) and I am so incredibly blessed.

Tell me what you're grateful for?
soldiergrrrl: (Device)
You all know, probably more than half of you want to, that I play in the SCA.

I was blessed to know our recent Queen and King, even just a little bit through LJ, and they were both gracious enough to allow me to help in small ways by being on entourage.   I wasn't able to help as much as I would have liked, but I am SO grateful that I was allowed to help, even a little bit.

I cannot begin to tell you how much just seeing that little teeny tiny bit of work the Crowns do makes me appreciate them even more.

Yes, they rule because we let them, but honestly, they work damn hard at what they do.  To be fair, to be gracious, to be the ideals we all strive to emulate.

I won't say they weren't human, for that would be damning them both with faint praise.  No, they were human, with all the attendant joys, and sadnesses, frictions and emotions that come with the courtesies and pleasantries of being Crown.  They were both regal, beautiful, gentle, fierce and always, always, full of love for their Kingdom.  We are so blessed to have this be our tradition of Royalty in the SCA, and in Ansteorra.  This is what I have "grown up" with in the SCA, this is what I've come to expect, and I am so grateful to have such an ideal to look up to, no matter how short I may fall.

Thank you, all of you, for the part you play in the Dream we share, and to our recent King and Queen, Vivat!  To our current Crowns, may You have a wonderful reign!

We did it!

We are now homeowners!

*dances*

I'm still slightly croggled that this is my life.  It's just too awesome.

I'll get some pictures tomorrow.  Since we don't fund until tomorrow, we won't pick up keys until then, but after that, it's on, baby!

OMG HOUSE!

soldiergrrrl: (Default)

I'm sorry for the confusion regarding the forgiveness post.  In the Orthodox Church, the Sunday before the start of Great Lent is "Forgiveness Sunday," when we ask those we have offended in this year to forgive us our transgressions.  I usually do it on LJ because, well, it's my largest social outlet, pretty much.

I also am simply amazed at my life.  Yeah, things aren't always the best, sometimes I fall and don't remember to look up to see my blessings, but seriously?  My life is incredible.

I have a wonderful marriage and romantic life.   I am surrounded by love and affection at every turn, even when I wonder why.

I have a job I adore and I am lucky enough to still be employed.

I am involved with a hobby that allows my inner geek out to play, and surrounds me with more open-hearted friends than I know what to do with.  (I'm looking at you,[info]selenite,[info]celticdragonfly , and[info]liamstliam  and[info]fieryredhead, and [info]cenliamgordon, and...damn...pretty much ALL the SCAdians on my f-list....and speaking of SCAdians and lists...[info]spikywheel, did my package ever get to you?  I've had a spate of screwy mail recently and I wanted to make sure your giftie didn't get caught up in it.)  The SCA lets me revel in my love of pomp and circumstance and allows me to help others without people wondering what the hell I want.

God has truly graced me with so many good things and I am constantly in awe of the things He deems fit to bestow upon me.

soldiergrrrl: (Morale)

Still sick.  Getting better, but still sick.  Getting my flu shot (mist) on top of a horrible cold was not, rpt, not the best thing, but I'll survive.  My sinuses have decided that they're not making up their mind as to whether they'll be filled with goo or not, and so, I go through intermittent headachey periods where I'm *sure* my head will explode, but it never does.

Somehow, that's vaguely disappointing.  ;-)

What else?

Erm.  Starting with Monday, since that was the start of my workweek!

Monday-  Work.  Work was.  Work is.  Work will be, thank God.  In days when I know a lot of folx who are in danger of losing their job, I am profoundly grateful for mine.

Also, beginner fighter practice.  Although I did not fully armor up (see preceding note about sinuses and feeling like the south end of a north-bound mule) I did get to swing a stick a bit, and I haven't lost quite as much as I fear.  I'm still struggling to clean up and actually land my offside shots correctly, but that will come in time.

Because I was not armored up, I was somewhat exempt from the Circle of Death, and while I did not fight, I did get a chance to put stick on armored fighters.  Basically, unarmored fighters get five swings at the armored fighters (and no, the up-armored guys do NOT get to swing back, Ioannes!).

I managed to land two good shots in my matches, and killed Ioannes (John) but I think I also killed Abel.  Well, I got to whack upon Ioannes' legs, but that's because he reminded me in the middle of it to quit throwing the same damn shot and...oh...go low.  You know, where there was no armor!

Go me!  That was awesome.

Tuesday-  We attempted to get a Christmas tree.  It did not happen because of the weather.  So, we returned the house, sans tree.

Wednesday-  I met with cenliamgordon at the local Home Depot and we picked up a lovely noble fir.  Sadly, because of a soldier being a jackass, John could not join us for the ritual holding of the tree, but he is pleased with the tree we picked, and he helped put it in the uber-stand.  (Between the two of us, it's still crooked.  Oh well.)

Liam's munchkins got to hang the first ornaments on it, because we didn't get it early enought to decorate it while they were at out house.  :-(  But they enjoyed hanging their ornament on it, and they'll be excited when they come back next week.

Today-  I got up, the dog grumped at me for waking her up and then got up and went to sleep with Liam.  She's a total cuddle-bug in the morning, and will cheerfully leave our bed to go find another warm body to snuggle with.  I grabbed a cuppa, put on my face and headed out.  Traffic was light, and so...I made it in to work.

Now, I have to work on a PP briefing on dealing with media for this weekend's annual briefing spree.  Yay.

Just over a week and a half until my birfday!

:-D
