You mean "about to throw up," I'm good to hook!  (This entry is brought to you by the letter O, M and G, and by the words "TOTALLY FREAKIN' RANDOM.")

God...our first (VERY FIRST) event as a group is on Saturday, and I'm...well, I'm not the autocrat, thank God, but still...I'm worried SOOOO much.

This is a big, big deal.  It's the Laurels Prize Tourney, and so far, we're on track to have a great event, but still....EEEEEEE!

What if people get lost?  Or don't want to pay the entry fee to the park?  Or the building burns down?  Or I fall into the lake?  With my portfolio???  It's a good think I'm *not* the autocrat, or I'd be eating Tums like candy.  (I already am, but that's pretty normal, actually.)

Everyone has worked really hard to get to this point, and if I get stupid teary, please forgive me.  This group has amazed me.  They've just been...amazing.  Honestly, we've had some bumps along the way, but...it's just been amazing.  Wonderful and amazing and the amount of support we've gotten floors me.

Please note, I am displaying at LPT, and since I've never done that before, I'm considering "getting lost" on my way to the event. or being held up at pen-point for my portfolios...*whistles innocently*

This week is getting back into the swing of things at work, and starting in on the Dispatch.  :-D

The event will happen.

It will rock.

The end.

What's the difference between displaying and competing?

Having seen the scrolls you posted here, you will do good.

Hmmmm. There's something satisfying about posting projects online, isn't there?

Basically, this is a chance for the artisans to show their body of work, (any and all of it) and talk to Laurels that are experts. To me, it's a lot less stressful than competing, because, well...there are no prizes? :-D I guess it's more like "show and tell" instead of a contest.

And I'm just excited to be doing okay at this stuff!

If there's no competing, there's also no bad scores. :)

I ... well, I like to compete. But then again, I've scored decent in every piece I've entered, when judged by Laurels. (In populace vote, we had some ballot box stuffing by young 'uns.) The points I've lost, in every case, were anticipated, but sometimes it's not worth rewarping and reweaving. Especially when the contest is less than two weeks away. (And I know I get nervous when singing, so I need to get over that. Which I do by entering every singing contest I can find. Hmmm.)

And when we compete here in a regional, the judges are typically laurels and/or subject specialists, so their comments have been very useful.

Breath. Breath again.

Now, so many people have cell phones and GPS's it's hard to get lost when you want to anymore.

People will pay the fee. It's very unlikely that the building will burn down.

For the rest, what [livejournal.com profile] liamstliam said. The event will happen. It will rock.

Breath. Breath again. Now breath some more. Really, it'll be fine.

Inevitably, someone *will* get lost. They'll get there after a detour.

There is always someone who bitches about the entry fee. At every single event, really. I think it's written into the contract or something.

If the building burns down, they'll find an alternate site.

Stay away from the lake.

You should be just fine, sweetie.

Excited, emphatic, HUGS!

I am SO excited for you! Your first event is going to be awesome. :) I did blink at the park fee, but it's ON Ft. Hood, so that makes that okay in my book. :) I just wish I could go... {pout} ...but the budget was my idea, and we don't have anything new to wear anyway... (Actually, that's only going to be a problem for BAM, when it's cold.)

So have fun! I'm really happy that you're showing off your illumination. Everything I've seen that you've done is gorgeous. :)

Laurel's Prize Tournament is specifically designed to not be stressful for the entrant. It is where your work is judged and criticized but in an positive and helpful way. The judges do choose their "favorites" but nothing is meant in an competitive basis. We sit with the entrants and show them how to improve either their work or documentation or how to display. There are no points assigned or any of that. And each entrant gets assigned at least two Laurels to sit and fully go over their work. Most entrants who are terrified to enter leave feeling very fulfilled afterwards.

Honestly, I'm less worried about my work than I am something going horribly awfully wrong.

LOVE the icon.

Unfortunately, just Laurel stuff. We are only day-tripping and I will probably be pretty busy judging and talking with entrants since there appears to be a pretty high entrant/Laurel ratio.

I do want to come down and play as soon as I can. Probably when things cool down a bit.

Besides, I may have a small hairline fracture on my right arm so fighting is probably not a good idea right now.
