I once had USAA for the autos and they were very good, for cars.
The problem was for the homeowers ins. When we had the house fire my biggest mistake was making a claim. When they got done with us, we learned the error of our ways. They made our life hell for our foolishness. Once, I even made the mistake of asking a question about coverage and was told that I was supposed to know the answer.
They fought us tooth and nail. Never returned any calls. Called my wife a liar. I only got to the adjuster, if she was at her desk and if she was in the mood to answer the phone. Then I would find out that some paperwork had been on her desk for a week or more and it was "wrong". I was just supposed to know what to do and it wasn't her job to call me and let me know. I had to call Home Office twice just to get some basic info.
I talked to many over the years and they had only good things to say about auto but never found any who could say anything good about the home owners side.
To me, USAA will always be the bunch that called my wife a liar and for what they put us through 21 years ago. No second chance.
Shall we compose poetry to honor Pony's bravery? I know what it's like to lose a beloved car, and I'm glad you're okay. Hope everything continues to resolve smoothly.
It still amazes me that a car can be wrecked and its occupants emerge mostly unharmed. Glad this was the case for you. I'd say your car served you quite honorably.

A car is oft-times more than just a pile of parts.
Date: 2010-11-17 01:10 pm (UTC)I remember when Pony followed you home. (The SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE still echoes up here.) She had a good life with you.
It sucks, yes, but ultimately John still has his prize - you.
(Go get a Jeep! Jeeps are fun! Jeeps are neat! And if you fold it down right, three complete treadles can fit on the back seat!)
