DEAR ASSHATS! Listen up and listen good! (Profanity warning)

First and foremost-  I don't CARE who started it.  I'm not interested in hearing playground whines about "He did it first!"  SHUT UP.

Now, are you listening?  Because I'm only going to say this once.

You, yeah you...the one putting politician's family members in the newspapers, the one publishing the address of a politician (except it wasn't) and encouraging people to "drop by" to give a protest that "pesonal touch," the one advocating ANY type of violent action because you disagree with someone else's veiw point....STOP THAT SHIT.  I'm not kidding.  Don't look at me and say it was just "hypothetical," or that you didn't *really* mean it.

JUST STOP it.  STOP encouraging your followers to commit acts of violence because you disagree with a political party.  JUST STOP.  In case you're wondering, that kind of stuff is what they do in crappy third-world countries.  You know, those crappy third-world countries my family members have been to in order to try and get the locals to STOP THAT SHIT and to understand that really, threatening families and blowing shit up is NOT an okay way to get your point across.  Seriously, I've been part of a group trying to convince people that really, blowing up opposing newspaper offices is NOT the way to shut them up.  You think that shit's funny or effective or the right measures in "desperate" times?  FUCK YOU.  It's not.  It's wrong, no matter what side of the political spectrum you fall on.  STOP THAT SHIT.  It's how terrorists get their way.

Yeah, I said it.  Fuck you.  I'll stand up and say that if you threaten elected officials or their families, or their homes with VIOLENCE, no matter why you do it, you've started down a dark and terrifying road that leads to the same whacked out bullshit in those crappy third-world countries we get to visit and terrorism.  And terrorism in the name of your sacred cow is still terrorism.

STOP IT.

You don't like what someone's saying, especially an elected politician?  Fine.  Goody for you.  You want them out of office?  Great.  Get your ass to work and make it happen.  Legally, morally, ethically.  Get stumping, tell me why your guy will do it better, will do it the way that will best serve this country, why your guy is BETTER than the guy in there now.  Don't just tell me he's a big bad meanie poo poo head and he deserves to DIE.  STOP THAT SHIT.  Seriously, threatening their families?  Did you miss that how the fucking Taliban keeps people in line?  Are you fucking serious?  You think you're RIGHT when you pull that stunt???  STOP THAT SHIT.

I DON'T CARE if you're really mad about FITB lesislation or FITB party platform.  I don't CARE.  Threatening people with harm, calling them things like "a dead man," or implying that violence is okay because they're on the wrong side of the political specturm than you IS NOT OKAY.

And before any of you assholes tell me I'm not patriotic, or that I want America to fail, or that I want the terrorists to win, let me ask you how many times YOU'VE gone to one of those shitty third-world countries lately.  In my family, we're going on six deployments.  So, unless you're able to look at me and tell me you've done more than a total of five YEARS over there, just SHUT UP and take your "unAmerican" bullshit rhetoric and shove it.

I'm about as patriotic as they come and I love my country with a fierce pride.  A lot of my fellow countrymen are pissing me off though.

KNOCK THAT SHIT OFF.

No love,
SoldierGrrrl

ETA:  When I say "my family has deployed" I mean my husband, his best friend, our housemate, one of my best friend's husband, and me.  My husband is currently deployed to Afghanistan, his best friend is in Iraq and I'm heading there at the end of the year-ish for the second time.  Alex recently returned from a tour in Iraq and is probably heading back soon.  Our housemate was in the initial invasion. All told, we're actually up over eight total deployments, and the better part of eight years total.  That says *nothing* about the extended family and friends who have supported us during the deployments.  We could not do what we do without those here at home doing what they do.

Preach it, sister!

You should publish that in a larger forum. Really.

Actually, would you mind if I posted this to [livejournal.com profile] metaquotes?

I am sorely tempted to cross-post this to the Baen politics forum. The rhetoric in there is getting to the point where I am considering never buying a Baen book again.

Preach on.

You know, there's a group called "Administrivia", and even an email address, moderators@baen.com, that can be used... AFAIK, I'm the only active moderator other than Arnold, and I don't have time or patience to bother with Politics unless summoned there (with disgust at all sides of the political spectrum there).

Word yo.

I was appalled when I heard that a Congressman's brother had the gas lines at his house cut and that people are wishing harm upon their elected officials.

I hope anyone who advocates any of that crap gets some serious time in PMITA Prison.

Stumbled over to your LJ via [livejournal.com profile] metaquotes. :)

I hear you and I agree all the way. I should know, because I live in one of those crappy third-world countries where the political elite brazenly use government resources to undermine justice and oppress their constituents for political and economic gain, journalists are gunned down for speaking up, a political family that just brought the entire country to moral and economic ruin is still calling the shots after being ousted in a peaceful revolution, and the incumbents are circumventing the law to avoid prosecution for their corruption.

Oh, man. Do. I hear. You. Yes!

[identity profile] soldiergrrrl.livejournal.com 2010-03-25 02:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you for stopping by.

I probably should police up what I say about third world countries, as I'm not sure calling them "crappy" is fair or just, but I got my dander up and I'm angry about the way political discourse is going in my country.

I hope you and your family stay safe and that you are able to find happiness and peace soon.

Oh agreed.

And threatening kids is a chickenshit thing to do. And makes you (not you, the people doing it) a horrible waste of biomass.

[identity profile] djproject.livejournal.com 2010-03-25 03:36 pm (UTC)(link)
well said.

and i like how you said it was toward the asshats as oppose to the majority of people (myself included) who understand that "kill the bill" does *not* nor did it ever mean "kill those who voted yes." while this is the american revolution, this will be fought with pamphlets, words and most importantly the ballot box ... not musket fire. (and yes this is someone who lives about two towns north from where it all started militarily =] )

First let me preface that we're not there YET.

However, are you not forgetting exactly WHY rule number 2 was enacted?

The politicians are SUPPOSED to respect and fear the citizenry. That's why we have the form of government we have. I fear that congressmen either ignore the people OR worse think that they know better and that we need to be brought to heel to their way of things.

Further, I fear that they've become so insulated that they don't know how to respond properly to when they do step out of line. Seriously, they were talking about passing unfavorable legislation, a massive tax increase, by fiat and NOT by a proper vote. The Speaker of the House said she liked the idea because it meant that Representatives did NOT have to vote on the bill. The small fact of the matter is yes, in order for it to be a law, they DO have to vote ON THAT BILL. Article I Section 7 is NOT a a suggestion.

When I hear congressmen saying:

""When the deal goes down, all this talk about rules, we make em up as we go along"

""Let me remind you this has been going on for years. We are bringing it to a halt, the harsh fact of the matter is that when you're going to pass legislation that will cover 300 million american people in different ways, it takes a long time to do the necessary administrative steps to put the legislation together to CONTROL the PEOPLE"

In my view, they've begun to tread DANGEROUSLY close to ignoring their mandate and authority. Again we're not there yet, but I think MORE screaming at them at town halls is necessary.

[identity profile] soldiergrrrl.livejournal.com 2010-03-25 03:59 pm (UTC)(link)
No. I'm not about to agree with you that threatening families, or elected officials with DEATH or bodily injury is okay.

Threatenting their families IS NOT OKAY. Publishing picture of KIDS in newspapers, encouraging people to harrass them IS NOT OKAY.

FULL STOP. There is NO arguement you can make that will make me believe that violence against these men and women, or their families is right. I don't *care* if it's hyperbole or "just a joke" or "said to make them listen," it's wrong.

We are still supposed to wear the white fucking hats, dammit and we don't play the game that way. EVER.

ETA: Telling them they're wrong? FINE and dandy. Telling them why they're fucking up your country? Okay. Threatening their lives and families? NOT OKAY. EVER. When you cross that line to saying "you're wrong," to "you're wrong and you should die because of it," it's not okay.

I got here from Metaquotes too and I absolutely adore this rant. Nothing excuses that kind of behavior, no matter what side of the aisle you're on. You've summed up my feelings entirely.

*standing ovation*

[identity profile] dracphelan.livejournal.com 2010-03-25 04:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree completely. I loathe that piece of legislation that they have passed. However, in this country, we are not at the point that we attempt to enact political change through violence or threats of violence.

I personally prefer Lawdog's solution to this situation. It appears that there are enough states that are unhappy enough with this legislation to go to court over it. So, why don't we get the states together and enact a constitutional amendment that forbids this kind of thing.

Here via metaquotes as well.

I truly cannot fathom why anyone would think bringing violence into the equation is a) acceptable in the first place and b) would actually make people change their mind.

Well said on all counts.

[identity profile] argonel.livejournal.com 2010-03-25 05:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Hear hear.

And as an addendum as a fairly conservative person to the asshats. Get off my side you are making me look bad. Also you have two easy opportunities to get the folks out of office. Catch them with Thietje hand far enough in the cookie jar to have grounds for impeachment or run against them in the next election. If you think you can do a Beyer job put your money where tour great big flapping jaw is.

[identity profile] wendyzski.livejournal.com 2010-03-25 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
I posted on my LJ "I know there are reasonable conservatives - I've met some. But srsly you need to stop letting the batshit insane wingers claim to represent you".

The level of hatred and vitriol over this is very scary. Last time I checked, 'debate' means " we're going to talk about this, and try to change people's minds" not "go to their brother's house and cut their gas line"!!!!

[identity profile] elusivecharades.livejournal.com 2010-03-25 05:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Here from metaquotes: YES. You are absolutely 100% correct. There is NEVER a reason to threaten violence against our elected officials. This is why we have a democratic process, don't like your representative? Get out there and campaign for someone you DO like and tell me why I should vote for him/her too. You don't go around throwing bricks, cutting gas lines and threatening CHILDREN FOR GOD'S SAKE. This makes me rage SO HARD. They keep bringing up that quote about the tree of patriotism needing to be watered with the blood of tyrants...this is 2010 and we have a process in place. USE IT, NOT VIOLENCE.

In other words: ILU.

[identity profile] spearweasel.livejournal.com 2010-03-25 05:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Yup. I posted something else, but I don't think it would be understood right now. So I'll content myself with "yup".

Thank you
