I'm not sure when I last updated, so I'll...heck, I have no idea where to start.

We had fighter practice Sunday, along with our first "populace."  I think I've found a design for new armor that will mean my arms are no longer going numb after 30 minutes.  Basically, in order to keep my arms in place, the strap goes across my bicep, just above the elbow and after a little while, my hands get cold and then go numb.

I got to try on Timor's arms, and since he uses a floating elbow cop and leather forearm protection, that should help eliminate the numbness.  We'll put the splints from my old arms on the new leather.  That's good.  Also, we are thinking about adjusting where my shield hangs to give my head some more protection.

Oh, and I we're hanging some new legs, too.  Yay!  I'll finally have thigh protection.

Last night was Body Mechanics, and the knight teaching the class was pleased at how little I'd lost.  I'm still throwing with lots and lots of power, so now I just need to get in armor and get on the damn field.  Oh, and move my feets.  I have got to MOVE.

Um.  Also, have plans to sew garb.  And then, fall over.

So tired.  Have no life outside SCA stuff right now.

So I read "I think I've found a design for new arms" and I thought you were talking about heraldry. Then I read "that will mean my arms are no longer going numb after 30 minutes," and I was confused.

And then I started reading at the beginning of the paragraph, and light dawned. Yeah, I don't fight, can you tell?

LOL! I'm also tired and my writing is really disjointed.

I'll see if I can fix it.

Don't you dare! There's nothing wrong with it. I just thought it was funny that my mind went straight to heraldry.

Oh. :-) I actually added a bunch of other stuff, too.

Eeep!

Just to pile on, I need to contact you regarding Japanese garb. May I call around lunch time, or email?

Oh, baby.

You are just scratchin' the surface. ;)

Alethea had a chance to go to a nice, little, very fun event in central Maine this weekend. She loved them, they loved her. She danced.

Someone made a stained glass device, maybe 18 inches high, of her arms.

She got to give some cool awards, and she got to visit her parents and get stuff from them along the way.

We have started planning Coronation. April 11 and done. ;)

As long as the life you do have is good, though, do you need another? Just think: That one would be full of 'stuff to do', too, and then how tired would you be? :)

LOL! This is so true.

I'd need a clone to deal with my other life. And John would be in SO MUCH TROUBLE.

So are you and the guys making it to ConDFW?

Gah! It is?

Damn.

We're going to Corpus for an event. John will be up in Dallas next week, possibly, though........

Sounds like you guys are accumulating a crowd. We have a 14' x 16' pavilion (like this, but white with green trim) that we haven't gotten any use out of for years. Would you want it as a "Stronghold" pavilion?

Wow! We'd take it off your hands for us, as well as the stronghold, if you're willing to part with it.

It's been years since we've been to an SCA event so there's no point in keeping it. I'm just too sentimental to toss stuff that's served well and is perfectly functional. Let us know when you'll be up this way and we can go through the garage and see what you can put to use. There's a camp bed, a couple of rugs, candle lanterns, and other stuff I've probably forgotten if that's of any interest. For the pavilion you need room for a bunch of 7' poles.

You are wonderful. Thank you so much. Consider the pavillion as having a new home, one where it will be loved and used well.

Terrific! BTW, I found some pictures of it we had online:
http://www.kelthaven.org/sca/pavilion.html
So that's what you'd actually be getting. The shade fly is 14' x 14' and has some extra-tall poles, but I made some shorter ones for when you just want to put it up by itself.

Yay. :)

For practicing moving, I'll make a suggestion that I know you won't use ('cause really, who does this stuff when they don't have their basketball/volleyball/tennis/football/etc coach yelling at them to do it?) o.O

"run lines" and "happy feet"

The first is basically sprinting back and forth across a field/court and touching the lines at each pass. The second is being in one place, squatting a little, and moving your feet as fast as you can for as long as you can, and then some. I'm sure some of the guys around you who played sports will be able to demonstrate, if you don't understand what I'm talking about. Otherwise, let me know, and I'll do a better job of explaining in detail. These are the ones that wore me out and made me sore, but I could actually see/feel such a difference in my performance that when I started having coaches who didn't make us do them, I'd do them on my own. That was back when I played sports. I haven't done anything since I got out of the Army, no matter how good it would be for me. :P :)

Throwing with lots and lots of power? What's your secret? (I *suck* at lots and lots of power. I will be up on you like a crazed orangutan, but you won't feel a damn thing.)

Using my hips. It's all in the hips, baby!

Hrm. Are you going to be at GW? If so, we'll get together with Sir Giotto if he's willing and he can show you better than I can. Basically, my shots start with my big toe.

:-D
