Because that's a good place to start.

This weekend was Her Stellar Majesty Queen Amelot Lisette de Blamont's Queen's Champion and Guardian of the Queen's Hope Tournaments.  The Stronghold of Hellsgate hosted the event and evidently, we did well.

The event was held on Camp Mabry, in the camping area and the site was declared a winner by just about all and sundry.  There was a charity race being held on post the same morning, so we had a bit of a SNAFU with the traffic situation and road closure, but overall?  It went really well.  The gate guards were polite, professional and got our folks through the gate with little to no hassle.

I did the site tokens, and they were pretty well received I think.  Basically, I copied a page from a German fencing manual, then copied that painting with some quotes, to make bookmarks.  The originals were framed for HRM, as her site token.

I also ended up with waterbearing, not that I minded.  It just kinda slipped Liam's mind, and so I grabbed it.  Sara and Ghilean helped like crazy, though, so I appreciated them manning the table when I couldn't or was off being a social butterfly.

Overall?  OMG great event.  Exhausting, but fun, and everyeone seemed to have a good time.  I also made the Queen cry, first thing in the morning, so I count that as a win.  (They have all go to invest heavily in waterproof makeup.)

Uh.  Other than that, not much else going on.  Tired and sore from the weekend, but back at work and trucking along.

This weekend coming up is a quiet weekend, and then next weekend is 3 Whosiwhatsis, where I WILL be fighting.  In fact, I've got ONE scroll lined up for Gulf Wars, and that's IT for a while.  I'd like to concentrate on my fighting, and get at least some of the rust knocked off before I take on another commission, so I'm going to tie my hands to my knees so they don't float up any more.

Brain has gone asplodey again.

I'm stuck on some of the upcoming projects, and with a four day drill this weekend, I'm not gonna get as much done as I wanted to.  Oh well, it's not like I need to sleep...

I've found the basis for the eagle, as well as the two heads, I think.  I'll use papier mache eggs as a mold, with wire armatures for the wings and necks.

I'm going to use a two-liter Coke bottle as the mold for Liam's lady, since it'll have that hourglass shape.  I'll cut the back of the bottle out, so the back is smooth, but I think that'll work pretty well.  She'll be in a black and gold cote and sideless surcote that will trail out to his mantle, I hope, so it's not like I've got nothing to do!

I've started laying out the letters of intent and think *maybe* I might be going a wee bit overboard.  Nah.  John's is actually pretty easy, the Greek aside, and Liam's will just take a while to lay out, more so than paint.  John's will be a dome, with the Greek lettering in three columns under the dome, and Liam's is a take off from the Manesse Codex, with a knight and a rose tree that forms the border.  We'll see how they turn out.

Again.

I've managed to turn out an archery scroll for Bryn Gwlad, and the invite scroll for TRH Aaron and Amelot Lisette's coronation.

Pictures of both to come later, after they've been awarded/sent out.

Now, I turn my attention to letters of intent and crests for the Legacy of Lions event in October.  *blink*

Ioannes wants a demi double-headed eagle or issuant from a tower gules, and Liam wants a woman, holding an a quill and...a flame, I think?

*blink*

So, papier mache, here I come!
soldiergrrrl: (Scribal)
But you probably already knew that.  I've started on a couple of scrolls.

The first is the archery champion scroll for Bryn Gwlad's baronial.  It's not too fancy schmancy, but I like it!

It's based on this style of ornamentation:

This is what the inked version looks like.  I'm waiting to find out what the text of the award will be, so that I can design a capital, though...

The second scroll I've started is for a friend's Award of Arms:

It's drawn off these two scrolls, almost copied, actually.  I suck at drawing animals right now, so, I borrowed from the Capodilista Codex to find a female knight.  (And no, she's not a knight, but I wanted a woman on horseback and this came up.  Hope I don't piss anyone off....)

The second one I took inspiration from just had a gorgeous border, and I loved the diamonds.

So, I kinda rolled them up together and ended up with this:

Sorry about the size difference!

Anyway, those are the diamonds on the border, with a quarter for scale.

If you'll excuse me, I have to go crazy now.

And be aware that when I say pictures, I mean like 20 of them.  I'm not kidding when I say this entry will eat your brain bandwidth.

These are some of the photos showing the progress of my new armor kit.  It's going to be gorgeous and I can't wait for it to be done!

You have been warned... )

I am a Twinkie.  I had pulled out Big Blue the Sewing Machine of OMG Awesomeness, in order to teach some fabric A LESSON.

And then...

I sewed it upside down.

I think I'm going back to bed.

Pictures!

These are pictures of the first red tunic, and the start of the second one.

They're AWFUL, but they'll give you an idea.

It's not quite so orange IRL, but it is BRIGHT!  You can barely see the detail on the facing, but I'll update when I have better pictures.

The following pictures are the start of the second tunic.  This is the facing that goes around the collar.  I usually do a double facing, and turn it from the inside out, so that the neckline is totally enclosed and neat.  One, it looks better to me, and two, it avoids the neckline rubbing an exposed seam on Ioannes's neck.

You can see the word "TOP" in one shot,  That's to remind me which side is the top side, or rather, which one will be seen on the outside of the tunic.

And a bit closer.  Not that you can see anything.

I finished a project.  For the first time in...yeah, let's not talk about that.

Ioannes has at least one new fighting tunic.  Go me!

OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG!!!

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!

It's so COOOOOOOOOOL!!!!!

(Yes, I really am this excitable in real life, too.)

I'm currently working on two projects:

This is going to be a personal banner.  I've still got to actually sew everything down (rather than just stitchwitch it down), paint the green leaves, do the eye, the nose and the ear detail, and then paint the ermine.  It's all hemmed and everything.  Both the top and the bottom have sleeves for poles, so it can be tied to a day shade, or suspended in a variety of ways.

This is the banner for Hellsgate.  It needs to be hemmed along the sides, highlighted and ties put on it, but it's coming along.  I'm industrious and stuff.

However, I really wish I could have gone to Coronation.  These needed to be done though.  I made a promise to get two banners done by FP tomorrow.  Eeeep!

Oh dear.

I'm sewing again.  Or at least planning to sew.  I have a bunch of stuff to finish for John, and some good information on a more correct style of tunic for him.  Then, gamboised cuisses, basically, and a new fighting tunic and he'll be all set.

For me, though...Well, now.

Our barony's Candlemas, in February, is themed as "A Night in New Spain."  Set in 1566, it's a great chance for me to play with a style of clothing I've wanted to make for a long time.  Late-period, fancy stuff.  As illustrated by...

Granted, my fabric is not that lucious red silk damask, but hey... I can't have everything, can I?

My fabric is this:

I'm REALLY hoping it's as awesome as I think it is. If not, I'll be off to the races to find something else...but I'll be able to upholster the couch!

You mean "about to throw up," I'm good to hook!  (This entry is brought to you by the letter O, M and G, and by the words "TOTALLY FREAKIN' RANDOM.")

God...our first (VERY FIRST) event as a group is on Saturday, and I'm...well, I'm not the autocrat, thank God, but still...I'm worried SOOOO much.

This is a big, big deal.  It's the Laurels Prize Tourney, and so far, we're on track to have a great event, but still....EEEEEEE!

What if people get lost?  Or don't want to pay the entry fee to the park?  Or the building burns down?  Or I fall into the lake?  With my portfolio???  It's a good think I'm *not* the autocrat, or I'd be eating Tums like candy.  (I already am, but that's pretty normal, actually.)

Everyone has worked really hard to get to this point, and if I get stupid teary, please forgive me.  This group has amazed me.  They've just been...amazing.  Honestly, we've had some bumps along the way, but...it's just been amazing.  Wonderful and amazing and the amount of support we've gotten floors me.

Please note, I am displaying at LPT, and since I've never done that before, I'm considering "getting lost" on my way to the event. or being held up at pen-point for my portfolios...*whistles innocently*

This week is getting back into the swing of things at work, and starting in on the Dispatch.  :-D
soldiergrrrl: (Device)
is there anything more fun than writing award recs???
soldiergrrrl: (Ain't quite right)

It's not perfect, and maybe one day I'll get another IBM model M to play with but for now?  I'm happy!
soldiergrrrl: (Ain't quite right)
Yes, I know...there's something wrong with me.  Really, really wrong.

So, that's what it looks like now.  :-)  I'm pretty happy, although if I did it again, I'd probably go with a brighter pink so the grey keys aren't quite so mauve.  Oh well, I'm happy.

In case...

what I could be good at in the SCA.

This is the general invite for the Laurels Prize Tourney.  It's pretty plain, but I think it looks good.

This is the design sketch for a personalized invite.  The folx that it's going out to are some of my favorite peoples in the SCA and I miss them.  I don't think he'll be able to come, and I don't know if she will, but I wanted them to know they're thought about and missed.  He is a Lion of Ansteorra and the tower comes from her device, so we'll see how it turns out.
soldiergrrrl: (Device)
Well, the scroll is in Oklahoma by now, and I'm biting my nails to the quick with nerves.

This is the final product.  I can see almost nothing but what's wrong with it, but for a first effort, I'm happy.  I need to work on smoothing out my color, a LOT.
