soldiergrrrl: (Ain't quite right)

Yes, I know...there's something wrong with me.  Really, really wrong.

So, that's what it looks like now.  :-)  I'm pretty happy, although if I did it again, I'd probably go with a brighter pink so the grey keys aren't quite so mauve.  Oh well, I'm happy.

Thanks! The dye seeps into the plastic and it won't rub off evidently. :-) Light colors work best, evidently. Dying/painting the case is going to be interesting, as they evidently warp badly when submerged in hot water.

:-D And now, you know way more about dying IBM keyboards than you wanted to.

ETA- Evidently, I'm fond of the word evidently today. Ugh. Sorry!

Cool! I didn't know you could dye plastic. Could you overdye them to get a richer color?

That is pretty cool. Did you put the keys back where they came from or did you jumble them up to confuse non touch typists.

The most hardware customization iv done was take a can of flat black krylon to the case so it wasn't plain beige. This was on a stell case though so I could take the side panels and top outside for the painting.

you think it'll work on my wireless keyboard keys???

John is going to kill me....hehehehehehe...I'm totally blaming this on you!!! *squeee!*
*happy dance*

do you think the brighter colour will rub off, or will it work as well as the lighter colour?

A lot is going to depend on the type of plastic. The dye evidently penetrates the plastic and won't rub off.

If you can, I'd recommend trying the dye out on a spare (identical) keyboard. Some plastics have a much lower melting temperature than the model M keys.

And the brighter colors should work just as well. :-D

I didn't even know RIT would stain plastic.

That's so cool! Kudos for the great idea and thanks for sharing! I had no idea you could do that. I have a similar keyboard, and it is drab, drab, drab. I love the idea of jazzing it up with color! Hmm, makes me wonder what else I could pretty up, too. Life's too short, so I like to add more beauty and joy wherever I can!
